Virtues

Below are a few virtues we feel are important to garner and nurture as human beings. Start with the one that resonates most with your beliefs and begin learning to incorporate the same in your life.

Love is one of the purest of emotions and comes naturally from within us. It comes in many forms too. Love is perhaps the most abundant emotion there is, and it manifests itself in all our lives on so many different levels.

Hope is when something tells us, we are going to make it big. Hope is when we are willing to bet on ourselves against all odds. Hope is when we believe in a higher power that takes care of us, now, then, and forever. Hope is powerful, and magnificent.

We all tend to take our lives for granted every now and then. We forget how privileged we are to have access to an abundance of resources. And this in turn makes us reckless. When we do something nice for someone and receive gratitude in return, it makes us want to do more for that person.

Considering the turmoil that the world is currently experiencing, this is perhaps the most important virtue to develop. Nurturing brotherhood involves giving space, love, and respect to people belonging to all cultures and not just our own.

We expect political leaders, public figures, and those in power to be honest and transparent. We expect our friends and family to be honest and transparent. It makes us feel safe and secure, knowing about the true intentions of those around us.

Patient indifference can give you what impatient devotion never could. Patience in itself is such a powerful tool that once mastered will enable you to reap great abundance. There are countless sailors who drowned because they could not wait for the storm to pass.

When you view a situation from someone else’s point of view and actually feel what he or she feels, we call it empathy. You may not completely agree with his or her perspective, but you understand how it shapes his or her judgment and act accordingly.

Mutual respect reflects equal and dignified treatment of all people belonging to any or every caste, creed, culture, color, religion, gender, etc. The very essence of the term mutual respect lies in that no one, and by no one we mean no one is discriminated against based on his or her geographical origin, religious or political standpoints, sexual preference, or any other preference per se.

Altruism refers to a set of actions taken by an individual or a group of individuals with the intention of benefitting someone other than themselves. Altruism also refers to a situation in which we are successfully able to set aside our own selfish needs in order to do good for the society.
